When I started this blog back in May of 2005 I never imagined I would still be going strong almost 5 years later, not to mention crossing the 3 million unique visitor mark.
For this I want to thank y’all 3 million times over!!!
To assist me in doing that here are a couple of Joseph Gordon-Levitt photos.

<iJJ> France moves closer to ban on burqas
I am all for empowering, well, everyone – however I’m not a fan of this sort of this.
“The problem of the burqa is not a religious problem. This is an issue of a woman’s freedom and dignity. This is not a religious symbol. It is a sign of subservience; it is a sign of lowering. I want to say solemnly, the burqa is not welcome in France,” Sarkozy said.
So in order to empower women (theoretically – it is probably difficult to tell whether women want to adhere to this religious practice or are forced to) you are going to disempower someones religious beliefs? Is that really a decision for the state to insert itself into?
“You are going to isolate these women and then you can’t say that it is Islam that has denied them freedom, but that the law has,” said Mabrouka Boujnah, a language teacher of Tunisian origin.
A law like this could be a bit too brute force. Plus the difficulty in enforcing it.
At the very least any law directed at full veils is likely to be challenged in the courts both here and at the European level. What’s more, even police find it hard to imagine how they could — or would — enforce such a ban.
All the while I’m sure France has more pressing problems to deal with – this seems to be epidemic of most nations. In Europe it seems to be the secular pushing themselves onto the non-secular while everywhere else its the reverse. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes…

Oddities for NoDak…
<iJJ> Mapleton stabbing victim identified
This one is really quite odd. Its a bedroom community about 15 miles west of Fargo (not many people, and mostly families) and this happened in the middle of the afternoon. This could be interesting to watch develop…
<iJJ> Fargo hit-and-run victim doing better, able to talk
This one is a bit less odd – he was found in the middle of the street at 4:43am. My guess is someone who’d been drinking hit him and kept going. Luckily the guy seems to be doing well so far with no long term brain damage.
